BBC World to go fully digital on satellite in Europe as analogue frequency is switched off

BBC World will end its transmissions on analogue satellite in Europe in mid-April, in line with the industry trend of switching off such signals across the continent.

Viewers receiving the BBC's international news and information channel in analogue on the HOT BIRD (tm) 6 satellite will have to retune to a digital frequency - using an appropriate set-top box - in in order to continue viewing programmes.

Those using the analogue signal on transponder 130, frequency 11114 MHz, on the satellite HOT BIRD (tm) 6 will need to use a DVB-compliant digital receiver and retune to transponder 94, the digital frequency 12597 MHz.  BBC World will remain unencrypted and free-to-air.
