Hej Alle

Jeg faldt lige over en FAQ for den nye kommende DMR-E500. Den forklarer lidt om netværksfunktionerne.

  /Lars

Q&A about DMR-E500H Network Function

No QUESTION ANSWER
DIGA MANAGER
01 The DVD recorder icon does not appear when I click "My Network" on Windows XP.
Universal Plug and Play (UPNP) may not be installed in your Windows XP machine.
Install UPNP using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, referring to Windows Help on your PC.
02 UPNP is enabled but the DVD recorder icon does not appear when I click "My Network" on Windows XP. If security software, like VirusBuster, is installed and its firewall function works, it may prevent the connection between your DMR-E500H and PC. Disable the firewall function of the security software before using the recorder.
03 When I start DIGAMA MANAGER, the start screen appears but the password entry box does not appear. Some function of Internet security software or other software may prohibit commercial pop-up windows.
Disable the function and click the refresh button on your browser.
AV Network Function
04 What is the AV network function? DMR-E500H can be set up as a server and accessed from a client device that is a PC or another DMR-E500H so that you can watch contents, such as moving pictures and photos, stored in the HDD or DVD-RAM on the server side from the client side. This function is called the AV network function.
05 What can I do specifically using the AV network function? If you use your PC as a client device to access a server, you can play back MPEG4 moving pictures and JPEG photos stored in the server and edit titles of MPEG2 moving pictures. If you use another DMR-E500H as a client device, MPEG2 moving pictures stored in the server can be played back.
06 What is required in order to use the AV network function if I use my PC as a client device? No special application is required on a client PC as long as the OS of the PC is Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.0 or later and Windows Media Player 8.0 or later are installed in it.
Some processes require downloading specific decoder software via the Internet and therefore require Internet connection.
07 Can I operate server DMR-E500H on its side while the AV network function is being used from a client device? While DMR-E500H is working as a server, you cannot operate it from the server side.
When time preset for timer recording comes, the timer recording starts. For other operations, however, you must first release the DMR-E500H from server mode.
08 If I set up DMR-E500H as a server, how many client devices can I connect to it? You can connect as many PCs and DMR-E500Hs as you want to the same network.
If you use DMR-E500Hs as client devices, you have to register them as client devices on the server side and up to 4 client devices can be registered per server.
If you use PCs as client devices, there is no such limitation.
09 Can I use the same DMR-E500H as a server from more than one client device at one time? Only one client device can communicate with a server at one time.
If more than one client device tries to access a server, the first device that starts communication becomes a proper client, and an error message appears on the other client devices.
10 If more than one DMR-E500H is connected to the same network, how can I identify each of them? You can give a unique device name to each of those DMR-E500Hs.
If you connect more than one DMR-E500H, you can identify them by referring to their device names.
[Edit video Title-name] function
11 If I use DIGA MANAGER to enter a title name, how many characters can I enter? You can use up to 64 single-byte characters, or 32 double-byte characters, for a title name.
[Play MPEG4] function
12 MPEG4 video recorded by DMR-E500H can not be played back.
(MPEG4 recording mode other than XF mode was used.)
Audio decoder software required for playback may not be installed.
DMR-E500H generates MPEG4 video files in ASF format complying with the SD VIDEO standards. G.726 Audio decoder software is required in order to play back such video files with Windows Media Player.
For information about how to install the audio decoder, see “Hardware and Software requirement”.
13 MPEG4 video recorded by DMR-E500H can not be played back.
(XF mode was used as MPEG4 recording mode.)
Driver software specific to XF mode that is required for playback may not be installed.
The driver software specific to XF mode must be installed before MPEG4 video recorded by DMR-E500H in XF mode is played back with Windows Media Player.
For information about how to install the driver software, see “Hardware and Software requirement”.
14 MPEG4 video is not smoothly played back with Windows Media Player 8.0. Windows Media Player 8.0 in combination with some PC hardware may not smoothly play back MPEG4 video.
In that case, upgrade your Windows Media Player to version 9.0 and try again.
15 MPEG4 video is not sometimes smoothly played back via wireless LAN. The communication speed of wireless LAN varies depending on noise and connectivity.
When MPEG4 video recorded in higher bit rate mode, like XF mode, in particular, is played back, the playback may sometimes stop or omit some frames.
If you cannot solve these troubles, use wired LAN, or record video in lower bit rate mode, like SF or F mode, and play it back.
16 While playing back MPEG4 video, playback position cannot be changed by using the slide bar of Windows Media Player. For MPEG4 playback with DIGA MANAGER, Windows Media Player starts playback before the file download from the server is completed. Therefore, operation with the slide bar or the fast-forward button is ignored until all the data is received.
[View Pictures] function
17 A JPEG image file is not viewed with the photo playback function. DMR-E500H supports playback of JPEG files complying with the JPEG baseline standard (DCF: Design rule for Camera File system).
Even a JPEG file may not be able to be transferred to DIGA MANAGER or viewed if you copy the file from your PC to a DVD-RAM medium.
18 A TIFF image file is not viewed with the photo playback function. DIGA MANAGER does not support playback of TIFF files.
To play back TIFF files, use the photo playback function of your DIGA recorder.
19 A slideshow is sometimes not viewed smoothly via wireless LAN. Under some wireless LAN communication conditions, a slideshow may cause the following troubles: it may not start, nothing may appear, or it may appear only a moment. If a slideshow is not viewed smoothly, use wired LAN, or take other actions.

When you use the firmware update function

E500H software can be upgraded via the Internet.
This will not upgrade the overall software, but only its network function including network function error correction.

To upgrade the software following the steps below, you have to use your DMR-E500H in an environment where it is connected to the Internet all the time.

(Before Upgrading)

Check that a LAN cable is correctly connected.
Following the steps 1 through 4 shown below, set your recorder to check upgrade information automatically.
  1) While your recorder is stopped, press the FUNCTIONS key, select "SETUP," and press the ENTER key.
