Lav dit WDTV til et avanceret mediecenter

Jeg har lige købt WDTV - og kikker lidt på WD's My Book World..

Derfor er mit spørgsmål om man kan sætte My Book world til WDTV med usb, og sætte My Book'en til min router, sådan at jeg kan overfører film fra min bærbar til My Book'en, og afspille dem over WDTV uden af flytte kabler o.lign...?

nej det behøver du ikke, du kan sagtens ændre menusystem uden at skulle streame dine film. det er klart det nemmeste at sætte ens wdtv op til det mere avancerede menu system, kræver bare installation af tre filer på en usb stick sammen med firmwaren.

Jeg har hentet en lille guide til setup af NFS drev på ens pc og hvorn man forbinder det til sin wdtv, venligst kopiret fra Compulsive Liar på wdtv forum. Det er en lang guide og svarer til den jeg har på første side af denne tråd, denne er dog mere uddybenede og man behøver sjældent bruge alt hvad der står iden, men den er god hvis man skulle løbe ind i problemer med setup.

Things to consider:

Security: Be sure to allow for haneWIN NFS server in your firewall settings. Likewise WD TV on to your network. Oversights here can lead to hours of frustration when other settings and applications appear to be OK.
Drives formatted FAT32 by default can't handle files greater than 4GB. A typical DVD ripped as an ISO file will be around 4.35GB so make sure these drives are formatted NTFS if you are sharing from a Windows PC or attached USB drive. This does not apply to the USB pendrive used for booting the WD TV, this should be formatted FAT32. The Linux boys can advise on ext formats as appropriate.
Once you have updated to Zorander's ext3-boot, the USB pendrive needs to remain attached to the WD TV.

OK here we go:

1. Update WD TV to latest official firmware - Download the latest official firmware (see link above) extract to the root of a USB pendrive that is empty and pre-formatted FAT32. Plug this into either USB port on your WD TV and turn on. The WD TV should scan the USB pendrive and recognise the newer firmware and ask whether to proceed with the update, go ahead. Once the update has completed turn the WD TV off, remove the USB pendrive and plug it back into your PC. Delete the WD TV official firmware or simply re-format (FAT32) the pendrive - either way is fine.

2. Extract Zorander's ext3-boot to the root of the USB pendrive.

3. Extract Disco's webserver to the root of the USB pendrive (OK to overwrite the 'changelog' file).

4. Attach USB harddrive directly to side USB port on WD TV. This drive could contain pictures, music & video files.

5. Attach Belkin Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter and your USB pendrive to a USB hub (mine is non-powered and works fine) and plug into back USB port on WD TV

6. Set up Netgear HDXB101 PowerLine HD Wall-plugged Adapters - connect to Netgear DG834N Modem/Router and Belkin Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter. This is very straight forward and doesn't involve much more than plugging one into a mains socket located near your router and the other into a mains socket close to your WD TV. Read the instructions that come with it. Word to the wise, they get pretty hot so don't go covering them up ! Of course you could simply have a straight through ethernet cable to connect the WD TV to your router, in which case you wouldn't require the HDXB101 setup at all.

7. Turn on your WD TV, this time around it will detect the ext3-boot firmware on the USB pendrive. Follow the install process once again, but this time make a note of the IP address that is assigned to the WD TV when it re-boots (should be a non routable address along the lines of 192.168.0.0 or 10.0.0.0 or 172.16.0.0). You only get a few seconds to grab this so keep your eye on the ball. Hint: you only need to catch the last octet (one to three digits after the third dot) as the first three octets should be the same as your PC (nip down to step 14 to see how to find this out).

8. Install haneWIN NFS server on PC (I changed the install path to D:\NFS to suit my setup) Navigate to the NFS installation directory and make a copy of the 'exports' file. This is for reference if you run into problems later on.

9. Create a folder to share in the root of any drive on your system that is directly attached to your PC i.e. internal drives or USB attached drives. NOTE; make sure that you make the name short and in lower case. Examples on my drives are; xpvids, xppics, xpmusic, wdvids, wdpics and wdmusic, where the first three (xp*) are on the PC harddrive and the last three (wd*) are on the WD USB 500GB Book attached via USB to the PC.
   
10. Start haneWIN NFS server then go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services / and check that the following services have both started and set to run automatically: NFS Server and SunRPC Portmap Daemon.

11. haneWIN NFS server - go to the 'exports' tab and hit edit. This will open a text doc containing some example NFS shares. Delete the examples (we already created a copy in step 8 just incase) and make a new entry that reflects one of the shares that you created earlier on your local drive. For example, if your local drive is C:\ then enter c:\nameofshare followed by a space then the IP address of your WD TV. Example: c:\wdvids 192.168.0.10   then go to File and Save. If you want to make the share 'Read Only' follow this example: c:\wdvids -readonly 192.168.0.10 NOTE: The 'exports' file must not be saved with the .txt extension, just leave it blank - no extension !

12. Restart the server. If you've got it wrong a message will appear, if not your good to go.

13. Open a web browser (I've been using IE8) and enter the IP address of your WD TV. A login box should appear - User = root, Password = by default there is no password so leave this blank.

14. Select the 'Shares' tab. You have only two boxes to fill in here, IP address of the NFS share (this is the IP address of your PC) and the file path. If you are unsure of the IP address of your PC go to Start / Run / type 'cmd' without the quotes and hit Enter. This opens a command box / Type 'ipconfig /all' without the quotes and hit Enter. You should now be able to identify your IP address which should be along the same lines as that of the WD TV box. If you are using a Netgear router then by default your IP addresses will all begin 192.168.0.

15. The NFS file path - This needs to be entered /driveletter/sharename all in lower case. Example: If your share = C:\wdvids then you will need to enter /c/wdvids. Tick the 'Save Share' box then hit the 'Save Share' button. The screen will go dark and a graphic will display while the NFS share is authorised. If you got it wrong it will let you know. If so, go back and check your path and remember no uppercase. If all looks OK re-check your entries in the haneWIN NFS server 'exports' file, also check in it's directory folder that the 'exports' file has not picked up an extension i.e .txt. Finally check that both services are still running (see 10).
Assuming all has gone to plan, reboot your WD TV (I normally power it down then switch off at the mains, wait a few seconds then turn it all back on again). Hopefully it will go through the boot process, a valid IP address will be assigned and briefly displayed on screen and then on to the normal GUI. To access your NFS shares you will have to navigate via the folder structure options within Pictures, Music and Videos.

16. Assuming that you ripped an ISO image of a video and copied it into your NFS 'wdvids' share, you should now be able to navigate to it by going to Videos / Folders / wdvids / nameofISOfile. It should stream seamlessly from your PC via your network to the WD TV and on to your TV screen.

17. To make more shares available you will need to create additional folders in the root directories of your drives then make the appropriate entries in the haneWIN exports file and in Disco's webserver GUI. NOTE: Place your media files directly into these share folders and not in sub-folders. WD TV appeared not to acknowledge sub-folders on my setup - not sure why ?

Du skriver, at for at få IMDB-look i menuerne, skal man angive i net.mount hvor ens delte drev ligger... Vil du uddybe dette? Er det den mappe på pc'ens harddisk hvor WDTV maskinen "kigger"?

Alt dette snak om NFS server og truegrid er vel kun til folk der ønsker at dele deres filmsamling på nettet, eller hvad?

vil man kunne gå på youtube efter denne udvidelse? Leder efter noget simpelt g billigt som WDTV eller Asus O!play, da jeg ik skal kunne andet end at se alle typer film og musik fra min eksterne harddisk (sker pt via ps3'en, men fungerer jo ikke med særlig mange formater og undertekster), eneste ekstra lille feature jeg gerne vil have er at kunne afspille videoer på youtube. Er det muligt eller skal man så helt op i "ægte" mediecenter størrelse og pris?

hej Pally, så prøv med en anden nfs server, f.eks hanewin nfs server og se om den virker, hvis ikke skal du nok have installeret nogle windows komponenter på din xp , men prøv først hanewin og se om det virker.
