Destructoid Out of the gate, Sony is pairing its powerhouse console with some of the most impressive motion-control technology the market has seen. It's got a decent lineup of software that ranges from casual-centric titles to impressive tech demos, along with some updates to already established games, so it should appeal to a wide audience. It's clear that Sony -- with this outstanding technology -- has the bones to be a fighter that can hold its own in the motion-control space. Whether it has the brains is mostly up to developers; whether it has the stamina is up to consumers. SOCOM 4 is probably the most eagerly anticipated of the Move games, and it's easy to see why. SOCOM is one of Sony's most popular franchises, and the Move does legitimately add some extra immersion to the experience. The game controls exactly like any of the various Wii shooters and honestly we didn't notice anything amazing about the fidelity compared to the Wiimote, but unlike most of those Wii shooters this one won't be a stripped-down port. And it'll have multiplayer. That's always good, too ![]() Kotaku was a fan of most of the offerings found in Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. I even found a few things redeeming about Wii Play. But that doesn't make me a mini-game sports fanboy. I still expect some depth to my collection of casual and unusual pick-up-and-play games. Fortunately, Sports Champions more than delivers. For better or worse, I was expecting Sports Champions to be a glorified Wii Sports, the Playstation 3's answer to casual, motion gaming. What I wasn't expecting was a set of experiences that so effortlessly blended high-resolution graphics with precision motion detection. Sports Champions managed to give me a level of intuitive motion gaming I've rarely found, even on the Wii's MotionPlus, and did so in a way I found oddly addictive and pleasantly fun. arstechnica The Move isn't for everyone, but now that I've been playing with the Move for a while, it's becoming harder to go back to the Wii. The Move is just more accurate, it gives you a better range of motion, and the PlayStation 3 is a graphical powerhouse. It used to be that you'd tolerate the Wii's graphics in order to use its motion controls. Now you don't have to. The combination of PlayStation Network and retail titles built from the ground up for the Move and existing (Move-patched) games like PGA Tour 11, Heavy Rain, and Killzone 3 really gives Sony's library a boost. Still, I didn't find that one game that will make you want to run out and buy the hardware the second it's released. There are many games that are fun, some games where Move control adds to the experience, but the hardware is not a necessary addition to the PlayStation 3 yet. That's going to take time. |
