Hej LG-folk...

Jeg er meget interesseret i at få min LG FirmWare opgraderet og vil derfor høre, hvad seneste version hedder - og hvor jeg evt. kan få fat på den?

Jeg har en INO, som er en ægte LG-klon (7500) og den har tidligere accepteret både en LG-firmware-upgrade og installation af en 250 GB harddisk (uden at kny), men det irriterer mig grænseløst, at min frimware ikke "kan huske" at jeg sætter CharSet til LATIN1 for at se danske SubTitles (med Æ-Ø-Å vist korrekt) til mine DivX'er - dette skal vælges hver og eneste gang.... 

Er der en forbedret tilgængelig LG FirmWare, der "husker" bedre???

PS Fik i første omgang oprettet dette emne i Teknik & Teori, men det er da vist *her* det hører hjemme.

Så er jeg desværre blank - kører selv med min medlev. firmware på min RH-7800 - den har også problemet med divx subtitles IKKE kan huskes.

Dertil bliver subtitles stående, indtil der bliver sagt noget i filmene og subs dermed bliver opdateret.

Lyder fint - og jeg vil gøre det samme, selvfølgelig.

Jeg iler derfor lige med en reminder, at LG (og kloner) findes med to forskellige typer processorer, så check lige fra evt. kilder HVILKEN chip, den pågældende FirmWare er ment for...

Firmware-upgrades er en ikke helt u-farlig ting, og kan være lige så fatal som et fejlindstalleret operativsystem på en PC... går det rigtigt galt, er der ingen er der ingen vej tilbage, enten:

1) Fordi man ikke starter med at "dump'e" den eksisterende FirmWare ud  på et medie først (dårlig programmering, faktisk, at dette ikke sker), eller...

2) Fordi firmwaren kun kører "halvt" igennem, og så kan det ske man ikke engang kan komme tilbage til menu-punktet, hvor man load'er en ny og bedre...

Det skal dog siges til slut her, at jeg faktisk lykkedes med at firmware-upgrade en IN=-3 med en LG-firmware... og helt uden problemer.

Nogle kloner er bare lavet helt rigtigt...  ...og menuerne er fuldkommen identiske med dem, man finder på LG 7800-serien nu.

Vidste ikke der fandtes forskellige processorer/CPU'er på 7500/7800 modellerne. Det er da interessant - hvor har du denne info fra ?
(Ikke fordi jeg tvivler på dig, men blot for at høre hvor man kan finde sådan god detaljeret teknisk info om LG optagerne).

Hej Anders,

Eftersom jeg lige er paa Juleferie i Holland - og derfor ikke har adgang til mine links derhjemme - kommer det desvaerre lige vente endnu et par dage.

Men den er altsaa god nok  - den med to modeller CPU'er i LG-modellerne. Jeg saa en advarsel, faktisk, om forsigtighed med firmware-opgrades, men fik ikke noteret navnene paa de to modeller

Jeg skal nok vende tilbage med flere detaljer, naar jeg er hjemme igen. Ligesom jeg vil annoncere, naar jeg har faaet fat paa denne seneste firmware, hvis den altsaa duer til min LG 7500 klon.

Så fik jeg endelig fulgt op på nyere firmware, til LG RH 7500 & 7800/7800H.

Jeg prøvede at ringe til LG selv ( http://nordic.lge.com/ - http://nordic.lge.com/  - "Support", "LG Kontor"), men de anede intet om firmware - de henviste til et service center, som jeg så også ringede til. Service-centret havde heller ingen nyere firmware, eller kendskab til hvordan denne kunne fremskaffes.

Så prøvede jeg at skrive til LG i deres Web-form ( http://se.lgservice.com/ - http://se.lgservice.com/  - "Contact Us") og fik flg. svar i dag:

I mailen, var vedhæftet den "seneste" version vi allerede har, 50617A - så der er iflg. LG Nordic, ingen nyere tilgængelig endnu.

Efterfølgende, skrev jeg tilbage - om de ikke var flinke at sende den seneste, når der kommer en nyere firmware.

Så skulle den være i vinkel - indtil da, må vi leve med version 50617A.
Vender tilbage, når jeg har en nyere firmware.

I finally did a follow-up, on the "newer firmware question", for LG RH 7500 & 7800/7800H.

I tried to call LG ( http://nordic.lge.com/ - http://nordic.lge.com/  - "Support", "LG Kontor/LG Office"), But they had never heard of such a firmware - instead, they directed to a service center, which I then tried to call.

The Service-center did not know of any newer firmware either, nor how this could be retreived.

I then tried to contact LG, through their Web-form ( http://se.lgservice.com/ - http://se.lgservice.com/  - "Contact Us") and got the following answer today:
"Hi Anders

This is the latest we have now but there is a new one on it´s way but have
not arrived yet.

But it solve the sub title issue that it keeps your settings but still I

In the mail, LG attached the "latest" version, we already have 50617A - which means, according to LG Nordic, no newer firmware available as of writing.

I then wrote LG back - if they could please send me the latest firmware, when it arrives.

That should be it, for now we have to settle with version 50617A.
Will be back, when I have a newer firmware.

Som jeg læser mailen, så løser denne firmware (50617A) at den husker min "setting" til LATIN-2, ved afspilning af DivX/XviD film men IKKE at den fjerner subtitles efter x sekunder.

Dog tolker jeg ikke denne mail, om hvovidt den nye firmware (kommende) løser subtitles problemet, med at subtitles forsvinder efter x sekunder eller andre issues - dem kommer han ikke ind på, da han ikke har set den kommende firmware endnu.

Jeg kan ikke huske om det er et problem med .sub, men det er et problem med .srt på XviD. Dog HAR jeg afspillet en eller flere DivX film, hvor subtitles har været fjernet korrekt efter endt dialog på filmen - men kan ikke huske om det er fordi det er en DivX (og ikke XviD), eller om det er fordi det er .sub formatet.
Det må komme an på en prøve når jeg får tid (skal nok vende tilbage herom).

Dog synes jeg ikke det er et kæmpe stort problem, at subtitles forbliver på skærmen (så har de langsomme eller trætte mulighed for at følge med... hehe), mere et irritations-moment. Ikke som KISS'en, der overhovedet ikke vil afspille nogle film eller de hakker eller andre probs. med KISS - her er LG'en bare fin.

Jeg har modtaget version 51214A til 7x00 (dvs. 7500, 7800, 7800H, 7900 og 7900H).

Der står intet om hvilke bugs/features der er i denne version, så det er på EGET ANSVAR.

Så snart jeg har fået prøvet den, skal jeg nok skrive tilbage, men den ER fra LGE Nordic !

I have received version 51214A til 7x00 (for the 7500, 7800, 7800H, 7900 and 7900H).

It says nothing about which bugs/features, the version covers, so it is AT YOUR OWN RISC.

As soon as I have tried it, I will post again in this thread. This IS the official firmware from LGE Nordic !

Please post Your experiences with this new firmware, in this thread.

This is the new firmware 51214A for LG RH-7x00 harddisk recorders.
The firmware has been released by LG Electronics Nordic.
It can be used for the following LG RH-7x00 models
(according to the earlier http://test.pier.dk/dvd/LG%20RH-7xxx/Firmware/50617A/50617A_FW.html - version 50617A description ):
RH-7500, RH-7800, RH-7800H and RH-7900H

! Update with/to this firmware at Your OWN RISC !
I am NOT to be held responsible, for any damages or faulty updates to Your recorder !

! VERY IMPORTANT !
1) NEVER switch off the recorder during an update.
2) Wait for the update to finish successfully (when the Firmware-CD has been ejected after the update).
3) After the update has finished, please remember to switch the recorder off, and then on again - for the new firmware to load, and fixes to work.

Before You start the update, check Your current firmware to see whether this firmware is older or newer, than Your current one.

For checking Your current Firmware-/Loader- info on RH 7x00:
Press ("Setup", "Lock icon", "7", "8", "8", "9").

It should look something like this (versions on Your recorder may vary):
SET: Ver=51214A Cware=prod045 BSP=23 FME
IO: Ver=R02(D17), Loader: v.30

The Loader version is NOT affected by this firmware-update,
nor is Your recorder's current settings or channel-tunings.

Features / issues addressed in firmware 51214A:

- Remember subtitle setting, for XviD/DivX movies, e.g. LATIN-2.

  with the same program/dvd-writer, as You did the first time You formated the disk.

- Better frame accurate editting.

  according to: http://www.divx.com/certification/technical.php - http://www.divx.com/certification/technical.php .

Now we at least don't have to wait for a new firmware, to solve the following:

Nej, men det vidste jeg før jeg købte den (men det er da ærgeligt for dem som IKKE vidste det på forhånd). Oftest er jeg/vi ikke hjemme når maskinen er sat til timeroptagelse, så det er ikke noget problem for mig/os herhjemme - ligesom de gamle VHS/Video dage.

Dog er det rart at vide på forhånd for fremtidige købere, at dette IKKE bliver rettet - hvis dette er et krav.

Som sagt, har jeg/vi herhjemme ikke nogle problemer med dette
- jeg/vi kan bare optage manuelt hvis vi er hjemme,
så kan jeg/vi godt anvende maskinen til at se film imedens.

Maybe I was a bit quick on .srt / .sub subtitles together in one bullet.
I only tested .srt from a CD/DVD, containing an XviD movie.

Will split the .srt / .sub into 2 bullets instead of 1.
So .srt is to be preferred over .sub for the LG RH 7x00 players.

Sorry, AndersPier. It was ME being hasty here

So, the one bug was fixed already by the update, and the other one needed the machine to be rebooted.

And, now we are here and talking subtitles, did I ever recommend the URUSoft Subtitle Workshop application (for free!!!)?

It's a great tool when you want to correct, time adjust, convert, translate (or whatever) an existing subtitle file.

Anyway, the MicroDVD subtitle text format works now perfectly with this latest firmware upgrade.

No problem - excellent the issue has been fixed, I will update the table back to .srt/.sub as corrected in the new firmware. As well as remind people to switch the recorder off and on again.

I actually did that (switched it off and on, as soon as the update finished).

Nu tror jeg, at jeg ved hvad du ref. til mht. de 2 typer CPU'er, der er på LG Recorderne. Det er garanteret Loader versionen du mener.

Loaderen er vist nok den del af/I firmwaren, som anvendes til at loade en ny firmware på maskinen - som vi lige har gjort med 51214A (mener jeg).
Her findes flere forskellige versioner (det nummer man e.g får under Loader=.v30, når man trykker "Setup", "Lock icon", "7", "8", "8", "9").

You don't have to update with 50617A before 51214A (I didn't), but You can. Maybe the Loader is included with the 50617A firmware, and no Loader with 51214A.

Do You remember what Loader You had BEFORE updating to 50617A ?
Same version or older ? What date (after the serial number) do You have on Your recorder ? I have May 2005. I ask because the date, after the serial number has something to do with the firmware/Loader version, when the recorder was released from the factory.

Maybe I'll try to update with 50617A, and redo the 51214A upgrade to see if it makes a difference.

Again, as far I know the Loader is a small piece of software responsible for doing firmware-upgrades on the player/recorder. You would need some other area in the firmware to be responsible for updates for the main code, as the memory/firmware for the actual update of the player/recorder otherwise is overwritten during the upgrade.
Hope it makes some kind of sense.

And as I mentioned before, maybe You are right - to update the Loader, You'd have to upgrade with 50617A before 51214A (it doesn't hurt to do it in that order anyway).

The guy I wrote with from LG, did not mention anything about, having to update with 50617A before 51214A though. I'll try and se if makes a difference to the Loader version on my recorder.

Well my recorder still has the old loader so 50617A did not update the loader to W.. (new version) The original fw on the recorder was 50323A (or something like that)
I thought the loader was the DVD writer firmware. Because that was mentioned in earlier postings here that the loader was responsible for not doing FF on DIVX. Maybe I got that wrong.

Have just seen in other devices, that the software responsible for updating the firmware, is a seperate piece of software/firmware form the actual functionality of the player/recorder.

When I was in the German forum I saw references to the following firmware/loader combination:

    Firmware as of 17.10.2005
    SET Ver:= 51017A Cware prod045 BSP=23FME 10 : Ver=R02 (D17)

As it seems different loaders and firmware combinations have been released from, I have the idea that this is why peopel have different observations concerning e.g. subtitles working or not working (and maybe even if a reboot must be done to make them work).

I do recall - when I got the 50617A copy from the Polish site - that the were a doc mentioning "... no new loader update"!!!

What I got from this is that the loader (whatever that is) can be updated *separately*, so it must be in charge of separate tasks, also.

My private guess is the loader is to be seen as the "BIOS" of the recorder, meaning that it controls which parameter settings (e.g. GUI langauage etc.) that have been selected. These parameters must på stored on the harddrive some place (also the charset Latin-2 selection), so I guess the loader "loads" these parameters when the recorder is booted.

All in all, the firmware sits on a EPROM chip on the motherboard, whereas the GUI-parameter selections sit in a hidden file on the harddrive (and loads with the loader).

All guess work here, but maybe interesting to someone who has the time to debug what system and hidden files are stored on the harddrive

This is an old bug. It was already solved in 50617A. Perhaps it is wise to Reinitialize your HDD after upgrading.

The AVI character Codepage bug was also solved in 50617A (read it somewhere in the realease notes on the LG service site and it worked OK after upgrading to 50617A)

I really would like to reinitialize (format) my HDD, but I've got more than 36 hours of video on my HDD (80GB). I don't want to delete those titles at the moment.

When I turn on my RH-7500, 'HDD CHECK' appears on the LCD display and the message 'Preparing. Please wait.' appears on my TV screen (for a couple of seconds). Is this normal?

1) I have'n seen this bug before ! Never experienced it myself, and I have done, maybe 100 edits by now (I had version 50425A bedfore my upgrade to 51214A).

2) The "HDD Check" and "Preparing, please wait" is normal - I have that too.
The more recordings, and editing - hence fragmentation on the Harddisk, it seems (don't know for sure) the message will stay there for longer, than when You first used the recorder.

The way to defragment, seems only to be solved by an initialization (format) of the harddisk.

But it is quite normal !

I use Philips 4x DVD+RW, have tried to initialize, COPY and then initialize the same DVD+RW disc again - no problems here.

I would try to contact LGE directly with this problem (as I did with the firmware). They are VERY quick to answer.

You should update to the 51214A version, even though You don't get the Loader updated.

I think we will get a new Loader, once my contact receives it though - he has been VERY VERY kind to answer within HOURS ! Amazing support I think.
If people just took the time, to go the official way (the contact, web-form), sometimes (as in this case) it actually worked, and answer got back within hours - had 4-5 emails from the LG guy yesterday ! THATS SERVICE !

Until we have your excellent contact at LG Nordic back, I found the following explanation as to what a loader is (and how it works) over Google Books (i.e. from "Software Product-Family Engineering"

I have cut and modified the text only slightly for our present purpose:

"A loader is a system software component that takes care of updating the software of a device. It reads (or sometimes directly downloads, wow!) a complete binary executable image (Justin: like the BIN file AndersPier is making downloadable here)...

... the loader and the executable software is never active at the same time (Justin: so I assume it's the loader that presents this red rectangular message on our TV *during* firmware upgrade and ends with a "Done!" message)...

...the reason for relasing a list of firmwares (and loaders) is that customers tend to expand their devices gradually, while the manufacturer is constantly improving hardware and software implementations (Justin: and correct errors!)...

... the loader autheticates any new software image (Justin: the .BIN file), before it starts upgrading (Justin: which ideally means no BAD Firmware release can ever be loaded???)...

...the normal software (Justin: The GUI) and the loader never run at the same time (Justin: This is why you should NEVER EVER switch off your recorder during firmware upgrade). Indeed, erasing/initializing/formatting empty DVD+RW discs, DVD-Video DVD+RW discs or DVD+RW VR discs is possible.

Ahh, I thought it was normal DVD+RW Video discs.
How did You format the disk Tweakradje ? With Nero ? I know Nero sometimes gives problems, when formating +/-RW disks.

Instead try to format from DVDInfo Pro, and see if it works then.

In my manual (Danish) for the recorder, on page 5 it is stated that that +/-RW disks formated elsewhere, than on the recorder - cannot be formated on the recorder. This in not a bug as such, but merely how the disk itself is initialized/formated. These problems also occur on computers with regular DVD+/-RW drives (I've seen quite a couple, when formated in Nero).

Yes, this firmware is for the 7x00 and 7x00H models, so this means ALSO 7800H and 7900H.

Did You read my ealier post today ?

It says in the manual for the player, on page 5 in the RH 7500 manual, at the buttom:
"If a DVD-RW/DVD+RW discs is recorded using a personal computer or other DVD recorder, you cannot format the disc using this recorder."
So You will have to re-format the disk, with the same program, as You did the first time You formated the disk.

Maybe DVDinfo Pro, can do the trick ? Otherwise, this is NOT a bug, also very common on a PC - if Nero (which is bad for formating DVD +/-RW) formated the disk, I have seen quite a bit of trouble, re-formating it elsewhere (on a PC).

Hi Wizz.

First of all, I have a LG RH 7800 as well (bought in May 2005, in Sweden).

I don't have any of the problems You mention, not the 4 minutes recording problem, NOR the sync problem !
Have You contacted LG with this ? (Otherwise, You should - they are quite helpful if You use the web-form, I linked to earlier).

About the 2 shortcomings/issues (which where also mentioned in the manual):
- Using the recorder while a timerbased/programmed recording is running.

and

- Having to switch off the recorder, for a timerbased/programmed recording to start.

I can only refer to what the guy from LG told me. He has been quite helpful, and was very quick and reliable in his answers (in my opinion). In other words, I choose to believe what he tells me, he has given me NO reason not to !

Whether or not these 2 issues are to be corrected, I chose to live with them BEFORE I bought the recorder, as these issues (in my opinion) are out-weighted, by the ability to play-back DivX / XviD - as good as the RH 7800 does.
I must admit I was VERY impressed with the DivX/XviD playback of this recorder, compared to KISS (as I also have).

If these 2 issues in despite to what the LG guy told me, where to be corrected in the future - I would be VERY happy.

But it has NOT been kept secret to us, that the player was not able to playback while timer-recording, NOR having to switch off the recorder for it to start the recording - as has MANY of, e.g. KISS shortcomings !

KISS simply did NOT tell (still don't), NOR document any of these lacks/issues/bugs/shortcomings in their players/recorders.
LG on the other hand, stated these 2 issues in the manual, from the beginning !
Besides that, LG has showed a support (in my opinion) that works, through their web-forms.

I usually read / sweep the manual through, before I buy any kind of electronics (you can usually find it at the web). If I can't get the manual for a device I want to buy, I 1) simply don't buy it or 2) ask a trusty dealer (not the netto/cheap dealers) about the features/shortcomings.

I think, if ordinary people buy through the internet, with NO talking to a dealer/technician first or getting hold af a manual before an electronic gadget-purchase - things are bound to go wrong.

Think that many people today, simply wants to buy the cheapest models/brands, with the MOST features, FULL support for NO money ! It does not hold - people have to choose. If You want lots of features, buy the LG, but ofcourse there are shortcomings as well - there are on most products. Though I think, the LG recorder has EXCELLENT and QUICK support (which has been proven to me, through my contacting over their web-form).

I must admit, I ofcourse WOULD like these 2 issues/shortcomings NOT to have been there - but they where, and I knew (before I bought). So could all others, who bought the recorder.

Maybe I'm the only one who feels like that, but I am VERY happy with my recorder - and do NOT regret my buy, I would do it again :-)

The only difference is that some timer circuit controls it instead of the remote controller. These two "features" are in my opinion the most annoying limitations of this device, perharps I would not buy it if I knew about them in advance. I suspect that correcting that would require significant rewrite of the software, not only fixing some bugs, and LG has no plans to do that, as the product is already sold to us. Yes, both release notes and experience (I use Latin-2) and tested it with the 50323A and 50617A. The latter kept the setting.

YES!

I've struggled with it quite a bit. The problems only appear after around a month of usage (at my lvl of usage). This combined with its random nature makes it quite difficult to troubleshoot. The OOS problem appear later than the 4 minute problem, maybe after 1½ month. Ive tried a lot of stuff including disk format, changing settings and updating FW from 50323A to 50617A. None helped, and the recorder (RH7900H) is now at service (or actually the mail has lost it, and are currently investigating, but thats another story).

Perhaps a bit off topic, so you might want to start a new thread or send a PM if you want to discuss it further.

the video clip i tested was 960x528, frame rate 23fps, 226kbps data rate, video sample size 12 bit, video compression XVID. (384kbps bitrate audio AC3 5.1). all according to the files summary information reported by windows xp.

I have no new loader for RH7000 so far but I have requested it.
The difference between loader and firmware I am not shore about but I will ask that also but all of them is named v.3X so W is something else.

And Loader and Firmware is upgraded separately, different software for it.

I must say again, this level of service is awsome :-) I'm MOST pleased with the support from LG.

Is it the LG RH-7500 Harddisk-/DVD- Recorder, or the LG DR-7500 DVD Recorder (with NO harddisk, but only DVD) ?

Har haft lidt problemer med begrænsning af båndbredden på min webserver, da der er mange som har hentet updaten - har det forstyrret min egen forbindelse ud af huset (hoster den på min egen ADSL).

Dog tror jeg nok, at jeg har fået løst problemet nu - og det skulle være muligt at hente igen, med fornuftig hastighed ! Prøv lige linket med 51214A fra mit site igen ! Skriv venligst tilbage hvordan det gik.

Looks like LG is now hosting the 51214A firmware officially:

Under the "SEARCH" -> "Select Continent" = "Europe".
Under the "Select country / region" = "Denmark" OR "Sweden" (Maybe some of the other countries also has the firmware).
Select = "DVD&VIDEO&SET TOP".

You will now see the official "Software for RH7000 series, ver 51214A" firmware, at LG's own homepage.

I did a binary file-comparison of the "LG_HDR_UPDATE_51214A.zip" file from LG's site, with the "LG_HDR_UPDATE_51214A.zip" file I host on my server = NO differences encountered.

I will leave the "LG_HDR_UPDATE_51214A.zip" on my server still, as many forums etc. link to this.

Just wanted to let Your guys / girls know, as some people are skeptical, hence wanting to download the firmware of LG's official homepage.

I couldn't use Goto.. function with one specific XVID.
Only the STOP sign (invalid command) appeared after
entering the time.

I will post more details later about the DIVX format for
that specific movie.

movie specs are: XVid 496x288 25 fps, BVOP, OpenDML, AC3 5 channels CBR

Hi all.

Today I wrote my LG contact again, to ask for the progress, on the release of the new LOADER for LG-RH 7x00 series Harddisk recorders.

I got the following answer (so now we can just check their site - for all releases, regarding Harddisk-/DVD- recorders).

"Hi

Have not get later version then 51214A, still waiting for next one
I am putting up all now when I get it on Nordic.lge.com"

The updates can now (and when future firmware-/loader- updates arrives) officially be found on:
http://se.lgservice.com/ - http://se.lgservice.com/ -> "DEVICE DRIVER" -> "DVD&VIDEO&SET TOP".

So now people can just post a note, when they "stumble" into a newer firmware / loader version in this forum.
