Now few words on the Xtreamer in comparison to the HMB and the relevant review of 1283 chipset. we hope it will help you guys to get a clearer picture about what is going on and before the review of our device will hit the scene.

Few points ought to be taken in this regard :

(1) PRICE PRICE PRICE - The Xtreamer is nearly 1/2 the price of the HMB . 99 Euro only.
(2) Our device is coming from factor with Wireless USB 802.11n antenna included. The antenna is coupled with a very powerful PC utility that is designed to allow you all enjoy it in your laptop and even as access point .
(3) The Xtreamer has an integrated DDnS that allows you to access the device from any internet location by simply syping yourname.xtreaemer.net - UPnP SMB and FTP are merely names of protocols if not done in proper way. The Spec sheet may be similar ...the result is totally different.
(4) The Xtreamer is portable device that you can carry with you like any other external USB device
(5) The Xtreamer is not using the original SDK (and i will explain hereunder in few words the difference)
(6) The Xtreamer is community oriented product and aimed to the online market only to keep a vibrant enhancements process
(7) The Xtreamer is backed up by one of the biggest manufacturers of this industry and it is not an "OEM" project made by local distributor on limited quantity and support of the chipset vendor. That means for you guys...a very powerfull R&D team dedicated to the sucess of your product in the future and an on going process of development and improvments.
(8) The Xtreamer is backed up with several PC Utilities to enhance the total user experience. None of those are made by any other realtek solution provider.
(9) The Xtreamer supports now and will support in future more languages than any other media player in the market. It is our intention to tune to the needs of every country in all aspects. OSD, GUI, downloading popular methods and compatibility to the national telecom routers.
(10) The Xtreamer will support within one month internet Radio and Bittorent client . Now we are finishing the tuning process.
(11) The Xtreamer firmware was improved dramatically where ease of use and mechanism improvements were set as a prime goal. Some issue ofcourse will be improved in the near future and we will try to outline some aspects of them here in this post.
(12) If the HMB is concluded to be a decent device for entry level that need some firmware improvements in order to be regarded as "mature" and easier to use. While the HMB is regarded as supportive fully of MKV h.264 DTS Downmix with gr8 picture quality support - the xtreamer can do all that and more . Better music player, better video quality, better subtitle support, better GUI and OSD, Better network connectivity in both terms of speed stability and signal strength, better file management mechanism, better internet FLV support that will be enhanced in the near future with many more web services and content, better overall exprience and the bottom line - better value for money.
(13) the xtreamer future development will embrace community open source projects.
(14) the xtreamer is built with both passive and active cooling. We even integrated an active dynmaic fan control so the machine will be as quite as possible and yet will be a long life product with as low as possible RMA rates.
(15) We will consider an extended RMA mechanism. in case your machine is in the warranty time and got an RMA number a delivery boy will come to your doorstep with new device and will get your faulty device in return.

All this extensive list of advantages over other 1283 player is given to you for 1/2 the price and is from factor from day 1.
Bugs, defects of the GUI or stupid SDK issues we may encounter already have been addressed by our R&D team and will be improved and enhanced in the future together with you.

The Xtreamer has the potential . We already succeeded in changing the crazy greedy pricing methodology we all experienced in media player market and will continue to do so. We are paying all the licences and even covering your EU taxes in order to make sure you will come to the same conclusion we got few months ago : There ought to be a way to make a very good player with solid functions at a reasonable price.

We read the very emotional debate surrounding the SMP vs RTL issue.

It was never a problem for us to buy and develop the device on SMP 8644 chipset or other they have offered us . We simply could not offer you the desired RATIO of price- quality you expected with the SMP pricing and BOM costs. The SMP on which most of MViX past products were based were taking us through the ordeal of very complicated upgrade mechanisms and limited support from Sigma.

Please note : The xtreamer project is not only our Success, it is Realtek success and once they will see your support in this project they will help us even more.

We regard the success of the xtreamer as the success of each and every one of us that like their media players solid and capable without spending much money for them.

It is the kind of device we had in mind to offer to our wives to handle while we are not next to them to "tune" or "prepare" for work. It is aimed first and formost to the normal user who simply enjoy to watch his movies and his media in a capable device without going through the process of tweaking..downloading upgrading tweaking and moding the device .

We are sure Moders and tweakers kind of guys will find plenty of opprtunites to play around with the device also.

It is for the community to embrace such efforts in order to create for us all an opportunity to make the media players a real alternative for DVD machines.

At any given moment we could place the price tag for the device on 170 euro or higher - like the HMB and the AC Ryan. We could do many marketing tricks in order to gain more money and profits. we decided not too. we believe the xtreamer should and would be reviewed as best value for money device. Each one of you is a reviewer.

Now few words as to how to the Realtek 1283 Chipsets and SDK versions goes.

any manufacturer that decided to build a device based on the 1283 platform is introduced with a demo board and download link to the SDK.

every month or so realtek is building a new SDK version that is given to some or all manufacturers with a relase notes.

Each SDK version is different from the other as it may or may not include bug fixes and platform updates.

A unit that is based on version 334533.22 can be totally different from a unit that is based on similar chipset based on more updated version of the SDK. Even both of them are same chipset.

Changing from one SDK version to another is not a simple process. copy/paste of code is not possible - it requires re-coding and re-porting the whole software solution from scratch. this is the reason you will see chinese or OEM devices never have or can reasonably expected to have a serious road map of updates. They simply cannot be bothered or lack the R&D resources to re-code their whole software again. Many time units of RTL hits the market , the users cry for bug fix that was already implemented by RTL but never done for that device in action.

This is the reason you will see now and probably will see more of them in the market- devices based on 1283 chipset that looks nearly the same . They are all based on the original SDK. When we say Original we meean basic version 1 or little after. Even they will use the latest most updated version of the SDK of last week it is not the same as each developer add his development power to the product.

DDnS platform is a multi million dollar setup operation that very few brands have integrated to their device so far . Not even Cisco or D-Link made it available for similar price tag devices as they still offer DynDNS and other free servies that are far from being an easy setup process for the ordinary layman.

The SDK we use is not the same as others and we explained here and there many time why .

To cut a long story short, the xtreamer is not the same. in many ways, we believe it is better as we saw the problems and tried to counter them.

We did not finish all the process. Some issues are still there and will be encountered in the future firmware updates.

Puting the xtreamer on the same level with any given OEM project of whatever distribution company or local dealer or some remote company in china that took its chances and bought 1K units in order to enter this market for the first time is a common mistake made by many.

We allowed this dis- information to take place as we were reluctant to address you all in the way we are doing now and here. While until now we failed to share with the public this information... they enjoyed the vacum and were regarded as same level competitors as building a spec sheet and website with few pages is an easy task.

Unicorn has more than 27 different ongoing OEM projects worldwide, Some of them are big names in the industry of consumer electronic and the companies who ordered them are traded in various stock markets. They are very demanding clients of unicorn and expect no games and competitve edge to retain their expected volumes. It is very unique world to find the manufacturer of the device compete against the competitors of its clients. All this commercial and business knowledge and experience acquired by unicorn will be invested into your xtreamers.

a good example that may serve you as background is the internet media server portal. Most of you are sure that the xtreamer will support only limited online content from youtube and etc. We already prepared a massive online portal with more than 4000 different online sources of contents in various genres (sports, news, porn, live TV , live radio and etc) . we already bought and setup the servers in a grid setup and now in the process of acquiring the licenses for its due operation. Codec compatibility and expansive licensing issue stopped us implementing this project already in other models unicorn developed so far.

Once we will launch it we will try to give the user as much freedom to add his desired content himself. The process of this project has already started and we really hope we will be able to give you the benefit of this service as soon as possible. we expect concluding it in matter of few months as it will require only small firmware update in your side. The scale of this project and the investment made behind it is far beyond the reach of any OEM project. We intend serious and we aim high.

The Xtreamer project is now facing some dirty practices that did not surprise us from our competitors. Some of them are under state of "panic" and already sending their aquads of "trols" and "flamers" to "bad mouth" the project and the device and kill it as soon as they think they could.

We got warning that one of them even hired a team of students to sit down on forums to allow us all "enjoy" their good service. They are doing so believing they have much to loose as their sales and stocks are already in jeopardy once the xtreamer hit the scenes .

Some of them, we have reasonable ground to believe, even placed an order in the first batch in order to write an "honest" review of what will appear to you as made by an objectibe john doe from germany or italy. an "honest" user experience of this kind will attempt to kill the device . Their task is clear... and even MPC Club made a clear hint about it in their main page.

We urge you all to be careful readers and seek information from respectable resources and known users. Some other people may simply motivated with poisonous interests and seek to harm. That is the nature of dealing with the mass.
High trees may get lots of wind.

We could save ourselves all the hustle and designate a list of respectable dealers in each country to take care the distribution of the xtreamer. The German dealer ought to have better mechanisms to deal with such phenomena's. This strategy would have helped us to keep relative peace here in this official forum while in the same time will cost you more as such dealer would have placed the xtreamer on higher price tag as he needs to make his profits also.

We got several applications to "review" our device from people who serves as "information vehicles" of our competitors and we ought to take them with the necessary precautions also. We dont believe now nor we will believe in the future that the Xtreamer will take 100% of the market. Some people expctation can never be met. the Xtreamer is not designed to meet everyones needs under all environments and settings.Some of you are very demanding clients and maybe the xtreamer is not suitable for you . You have a very extensive knowledgebase and more than 400 articles inside for you to read and base your decision whether you think the device is suitable for you, worth its money and justify the buzz. We will still make an effort to answer them and help them in due way.

The Xtreamer is not an NMT killer not it is aimed to be a killer of any product. No need to "Kill" anyone in order to keep a business these days. The new NMT is aimed on different segment and the results syabas made in online market with the A-110 could never be ignored nor disregarded. Serious discussion of the xtreamer necessitates to answer the simple question - how much i paid ? and what i can reasonably expect for this money once the xtreamer is on the scene with this price tag?

It is rather a modern yet decent alternative to the WDTV device with wire/wireless functionality and has a built in set of improvements that makes it a solid device for anyone who want to enjoy his media player device for small money while retaining the latest codec and file format compatibility.

The Members of the NMT or the Neuros communities are by no means our rivals. We are all swimming in the same pond. We are already co-operating with other brands in different projects. Soon you will be introduced with more models of the xtreamer brand. 3.5" HDD model, Recordable player, SMP 8644 based unit and more. Whatever model will be presented on this platform - it will retain the same concept and ration of specs - price - value. will be more than happy to assist any one who has a good idea and the means to implement it to the benefit of us all.

Building a 500 euro device and adding it a list of the latest technologies and components was never a problem . anyone can do so .As of today any PC can do sometime much more than a media player with grater flexability as it is based on powerful intel or AMD chipstes and provide greater freedom of support from all parts of the industry. the reason you may consider SoC based device, whether realtek or sigmas is probably because you dont want to keep a noisy expensive "monster" in your leaving room that is vulnerable to viruses and OS failures. You probably will not be able to carry your media on the go with an HTPC nor you will be able to allow your family to enjoy it fully without going through a very serious setup process of such HTPC machine.

While we are lacking the software development power of Microsoft, we managed to counter most issues and provide you a very descent piece of machine. We wish that was the case with our Vista and other OS.

Sometime we get off writing this kind of never ending posts in forums - and we have the chance to watch a movie or listen to music. when the movie is over we dont foregt it is a very serious recession and financial crisis out there. Once "the movie" is over, potential customer these days makes and should make many calcuclation before they make a decision to buy a "nice to have toy" for leisure.

We are under no circumstances never believed we are selling "medicine" to the mass. media player is a "nice to have" never a "must have" . we are in the industry of selling "Toys" for those enjoy media and have few extra dollars in their pocket. The amount of "bad water" and emotional panic and personal attacks here sometime was overwhelming.

We made the effort of sharing with you as much info as the process of delivery was going. We did all we can to ensure smooth transition from our factory. Not always what we intended came to life in practice. We cannot control all. We are frustrated very much like you for those un necessary issues raised from handling of third parties.

Some people forgot that such a direct communication was never done and is regarded unparalleled in our industry. When member of our staff bought an LCD TV or fridge for more than 2000 Euros he never had any forum or platform to cry to the manufacturer directly. If he would send an email to Toyota japan complaining how he hates the way the wheel is designed or how the front seat is uncomfortable, most likely he is ought to receive zero answer !!!!!

We take all responsibility for anything that may go wrong. Sometime money cannot deliver. techincal and logistic issues may arise and ought to arise given the scale of our operation. We are here to listen and improve. If you got your devices and had to pay taxes or custom or any expense than intended we will issue you shop voucher for the balance.

We take the effort to make this kind of long thread to break the barrier of manufacturer and end users. If this attempt will be misused or fail and regrettably will turn out to be detrimental we will stop it .

A user who bought a device from us for 119 euro including shipment - got a free gift of 20 euro automatically- not a 2 USD cheap china cable ! That is our way to say - thank you for the trust .

Still we were called "cheaters" "fake" and etc. A user that placed an order with us was always answered promptly. Some of you made more than 50 messages to us ! some even asked us if the tracking number is true or flase ????

An end user who may bought the xtreamer (not always the peope who writes here and there even placed an order with us) placing a new thread or answering a post and writing whatever he may think fit. whatever motivation he had or whomever who was paying him.

Those nicknames and IP origins are closely monitored by us and our legal department was already instructed to take legal action against defamatory posters that ignored our repeated warnings . We will keep you posted on this issue later and publish the outcome of these court proceedings once decided.

While we will keep our best efort to keep an open dialogue with the community, we are becoming less and less tolerant to trols and flamers. we seek your help in this regard. An essential key point for the success of this community is to concentrate on the device. 20 threads whether some guy got his unit or not is simply too much. You could address us directly and we promise to answer. The amount of industrial espionage that is running in the background as well the collateral damage our competitors want to inflict on us is unbelievable.

Our answer to them all is clear and simple - We are here to stay ! why pay more ?????

Should or should not the device worth the money you paid for it ..is our main concern . it is of essence to our community future development to hear your honset comments , pros and cons and seek with us constructive ways to improve the device for you and for those you are regarded as "media player officials" .

As we expect to be able to read this post and its comments even in few months time from now you are more than welcome to quote us in the future for anything said in this thread. We have no intention to loose face or take our words back.

Nu er disse bokse generelt ikke optimeret til at afspille musik. Den kan tilgå dine musik filer fra internt drev/externt/NAS, men det betyder så at du skal have TV'et tændt for at vælge musik! Hvordan du så søger efter musik m.m. når TV'et er tændt er nok heller ikke så smart som f.eks SquuzeCenter/iTunes m.m., men nok nærmere filbasseret.

Til musik skal du gå efter en løsning hvor du har en remote med display!

Det tror jeg ikke du ville kunne opnår. Tænk på at du skal have serversoftware som kan tale sammen med Touch'en - dvs. du har en iTunes på en PC'er eller SqueezeCenter til dette formål. Du vil ikke få denne software ind på en NMT/xTreamer m.m.

der findes server software såsom twonky der kan køre musik server, Dette kan streame ned til en media player. eller du kan have musikken ligge på medie afpsilleren og bruge dens musik bibliotek software, men du skal have en media palyer med display så duikke skal tænde TV'et hver gang, det kan bla Qnap nmp 1000 når den kommer og den den nye HMB Movie Palace der også har display, men implementeirgen er ikke lige så god endnu, som på squezzebox og apple.
