Ahh, I thought it was normal DVD+RW Video discs.
How did You format the disk Tweakradje ? With Nero ? I know Nero sometimes gives problems, when formating +/-RW disks.

Instead try to format from DVDInfo Pro, and see if it works then.

In my manual (Danish) for the recorder, on page 5 it is stated that that +/-RW disks formated elsewhere, than on the recorder - cannot be formated on the recorder. This in not a bug as such, but merely how the disk itself is initialized/formated. These problems also occur on computers with regular DVD+/-RW drives (I've seen quite a couple, when formated in Nero).

Yes, this firmware is for the 7x00 and 7x00H models, so this means ALSO 7800H and 7900H.

Thanks SiHiDa, that's is what I meant.

@Anders: yes with nero and AVI's on it. But when I erased them with Nero again they were usable in the LG again.

I am anxious to see what other DATA burn programs to a DVD+RW

Cheers

Hi again Tweakradje.

Did You read my ealier post today ?

It says in the manual for the player, on page 5 in the RH 7500 manual, at the buttom:
"If a DVD-RW/DVD+RW discs is recorded using a personal computer or other DVD recorder, you cannot format the disc using this recorder."
So You will have to re-format the disk, with the same program, as You did the first time You formated the disk.

Maybe DVDinfo Pro, can do the trick ? Otherwise, this is NOT a bug, also very common on a PC - if Nero (which is bad for formating DVD +/-RW) formated the disk, I have seen quite a bit of trouble, re-formating it elsewhere (on a PC).

Didn't quite understand what You mean by "I am anxious to see what other DATA burn programs to a DVD+RW"

/Anders.

This is also what I meant, when I yesterday wrote (maybe wasn't clear enough):
"Again, as far I know the Loader is a small piece of software responsible for doing firmware-upgrades on the player/recorder. You would need some other area in the firmware to be responsible for updates for the main code, as the memory/firmware for the actual update of the player/recorder otherwise is overwritten during the upgrade."

Until we have your excellent contact at LG Nordic back, I found the following explanation as to what a loader is (and how it works) over Google Books (i.e. from "Software Product-Family Engineering"

I have cut and modified the text only slightly for our present purpose:

"A loader is a system software component that takes care of updating the software of a device. It reads (or sometimes directly downloads, wow!) a complete binary executable image (Justin: like the BIN file AndersPier is making downloadable here)...

This is the new firmware 51214A for LG RH-7x00 harddisk recorders.
The firmware has been released by LG Electronics Nordic.
It can be used for the following LG RH-7x00 models
(according to the earlier
version 50617A description):
RH-7500, RH-7800, RH-7800H and RH-7900H

! Update with/to this firmware at Your OWN RISC !
I am NOT to be held responsible, for any damages or faulty updates to Your recorder !

! VERY IMPORTANT !
1) NEVER switch off the recorder during an update.
2) Wait for the update to finish successfully (when the Firmware-CD has been ejected after the update).
3) After the update has finished, please remember to switch the recorder off, and then on again - for the new firmware to load, and fixes to work.

The firmware 51214A can be downloaded here.

Also be sure to check my firmware-update guide, for making / burning the firmware-cd with Nero (with screen-shots), as well as updating the recorder.

Before You start the update, check Your current firmware to see whether this firmware is older or newer, than Your current one.

For checking Your current Firmware-/Loader- info on RH 7x00:
Press ("Setup", "Lock icon", "7", "8", "8", "9").

It should look something like this (versions on Your recorder may vary):
SET: Ver=51214A Cware=prod045 BSP=23 FME
IO: Ver=R02(D17), Loader: v.30

The Loader version is NOT affected by this firmware-update,
nor is Your recorder's current settings or channel-tunings.

Please update / add, to the below list started by Tweakradje and I,
to verify what new features / issues have been addressed within this firmware. Also feel free to add the bugs known by previous firmwares.

Features / issues addressed in firmware 51214A:

- Remember subtitle setting, for XviD/DivX movies, e.g. LATIN-2.
  Corrected in firmware 51214A.

- .srt / .sub subtitle bug in XviD / DivX movies (no end time).
(e.g. subtitles in XviD / DivX, are no longer displayed permanently).
  Corrected in firmware 51214A.

- Rewind / Fast forward when playing XviD/DivX movies.
(NOT to be confused with goto/search by time).
Will not be corrected by this, nor future firmwares / software,
according to factory - hardware issue / hardware bound.
  (Info from LGE Nordic).

- Fast DUBBING to DVD of edited material.
(e.g. FAST copying to DVD, after commercials have been cut away).
Will not be corrected by this, nor future firmwares / software,
according to factory - hardware issue / hardware bound.
  (Info from LGE Nordic).

- Using the recorder,
while a timerbased/programmed recording is running.
Will not be corrected by this, nor future firmwares / software,
according to factory - hardware issue / hardware bound.
  (Info from LGE Nordic).

- Having to switch off the recorder,

for a timerbased/programmed recording to start.
Will not be corrected by this, nor future firmwares / software,
according to factory - hardware issue / hardware bound.
  (Info from LGE Nordic).

- Erasing DVD+RW data discs.
As stated on page 5 in the RH 7500 / RH 7800 manual, at the buttom:
"If a DVD-RW/DVD+RW discs is recorded using a personal computer
or other DVD recorder, you cannot format the disc using this recorder."
So You will have to re-format the disk,

with the same program/dvd-writer, as You did the first time You formated the disk.

- Better frame accurate editting.
  (e.g. cutting away commercials).
  Not tested yet.

- High Definition DivX / XviD support (1280 x 720 @ 30 fps),
  according to:
http://www.divx.com/certification/technical.php.
  Not tested yet.

- etc...

/Anders

I meant if the fault was Nero. But thanks for clearing it by referring to the manual. Still strange.

Hi all - just did a small firmware-update guide, for creating the firmware-cd in Nero (with screen-shots). Also did a small guide for the firmware-update, on the recorder.

You can get it here.

Hi everybody,

First I would like to thank you for your effort to provide this new firmware. I've got a RH7800, and I observed couple of issues (fw 50617A):

- it happens, that some programmed recordings last only 4 minutes, or 4:01, this is not repeatable, seems to be random. So far I don't know if this new firmware corrected this, didn't happen since upgrade two days ago.

- in quite a few recordings, the sound is not in sync with the picture (someone other mentioned it as "lip sync problem"). So far I haven't observed it.

I wonder if anybody else here encountered such problems.

I think this is not necessarily true. There is no essential difference between manual recordings and programmed recordings. The only difference is that some timer circuit controls it instead of the remote controller. These two "features" are in my opinion the most annoying limitations of this device, perharps I would not buy it if I knew about them in advance. I suspect that correcting that would require significant rewrite of the software, not only fixing some bugs, and LG has no plans to do that, as the product is already sold to us.

Thanks again for this firmware.

Running on FW 50323A, I noticed a very nasty bug: I edited some of the titles on my LG RH-7500's hard disk ('Delete Part'). After some editing, I noticed a title (for example, 10) was now pointing to the contents of another title (for example, 20), but the length of title 10 was the original length of title 10 (not the length of title 20)! I turned my recorder off and on, and the title 10 had completely disappeared!

Does anybody know about my issue or has experienced the same issue? Does anybody know if this issue has been fixed in firmware 51214A (or 50617A)?

Hoi,

This is an old bug. It was already solved in 50617A. Perhaps it is wise to Reinitialize your HDD after upgrading.

Thanks. I was suprised to read your reply here, Tweakradje, because I asked the same question on GoT two weeks ago and I haven't received a reply... ;)

How do you know the bug was fixed in 50617A? Experience? (Experience from) Other users? LG firmware notes?
